Cody Ko, a content creator with more than five million YouTube subscribers, used an old clip from our morning show in his latest video.
Who is Cody Ko? I had no idea but according to my college-aged sister and her best friends, he’s a big deal.
When I was in high school, apparently he was a big deal on Vine (aka pre-historic TikTok). Now he’s garnered a large and loyal following on YouTube.

You can imagine my surprise when a girl I worked with during college sent me a link saying, and I quote: “OMGGGG YOU’RE IN CODY KO’S VIDEO!!!” And I was like, “I DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS BUT NOW I’M EXCITED!”
The clip he used in this video is from more than two years ago. I guess there’s not a ton of coverage of “hobby horsing” on the Internet.
Do I expect a feature like this to get me to a top 5 market? Absolutely not. Do I still find the video HILARIOUS? Uh, yeah. The video also has a good 1.5M views as of late April. That’s exposure you don’t find in small TV markets.
This has happened before back when stations were covering the “Storm Area 51” memes online. I think it’s important to share the fun and goofy stores on social media accounts almost as much as you cover the bad. You never know what will be picked up, years later, and go viral. The internet is a way to connect to the younger generation that might not even have cable or an antennae to watch local news anymore.
