More than $2.7 million was donated on East Texas Giving Day 2021.

This is my favorite project. It’s a lot of prep work, trying to get as many nonprofits involved as possible. These organizations really rely on this giving event and the demand is even stronger in the pandemic. Some of these nonprofits in Deep East Texas aren’t able to hold large fundraisers like Tyler and Longview easily can. So we make it work. Whether it’s Skype and Zoom calls or staying late one day to record an as-live interview, I want to help as many groups as I can.

What’s special to me is seeing the hard work pay off. Each year, little by little, we shake things up and we are seeing more money raised every year because of it. My first year taking on this task we crossed the million dollar mark for the first time. My second year happened to be in the middle of the pandemic. We didn’t know what to expect so we expanded the broadcast special from one hour to three. We raised $2.3M… in a pandemic! I’m so happy with what we were able to raise this year.
